J. Robert Renner
Deputy General Counsel
Robert Renner is CIR’s Deputy General Counsel. He graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in history in 1986 and received his J.D. from the University of California Berkeley in 1990.
Mr. Renner spent four years working in California’s Department of Justice as a Deputy Attorney General. Subsequently, he moved into private practice. For the next ten years, he worked in commercial litigation at Coudert Brothers LLP, where he represented copyright holders in high-profile cases. Most recently, Mr. Renner was a partner at Duane Morris LLP in Los Angeles from 2005 to 2021, specializing in commercial litigation, insurance coverage, and product liability defense.
He is a member of the Bar of California, Texas, and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Renner joined the Center for Individual Rights in 2022.
