Our Battle to Beat the Corporate Transparency Act

March 13, 2025 | 2:00pm – 3:00pm EDT

CIR’s leading challenge to the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) has already garnered Supreme Court attention, and for good reason: The illegal surveillance law forces 32 million small businesses to turn over private information to federal law enforcement. Join us to hear how defeating the CTA can help place limits on future government abuse.

No one gave the federal government the power to force tens of millions of Americans to turn over private information to law enforcement. Our Constitution creates a federalist system of government, in which the federal government received its charter of limited powers from the American people. But for nearly a century the courts have allowed Congress and the President to seize unheard of new authority nowhere granted in the Constitution.

Join Caleb Kruckenberg (Center for Individual Rights) in a conversation with Rob Smith (National Federation of Independent Business) and plaintiff Tony Goulart (Mustardseed Livestock) in a discussion about how we wound up with this invasive surveillance and how our challenge to it in Texas Top Cop Shop v. Bondi is uniquely positioned to restore American Federalism and place permanent limits on government power.
