The Center for Individual Rights respects the privacy of our donors and their choice not to have personal information sold or shared with others. Accordingly, we maintain strict controls on donor confidentiality, both internally and externally, and we never sell any donor information to anyone.

To help grow our base of supporters, CIR participates in carefully selected list exchanges in which we trade some donor names and mailing addresses for one-time use by selected nonprofits—generally with other conservative and libertarian organizations—in return for similar appeals by us to their donor lists. The respective lists are exchanged through trusted intermediaries, and no allied organization even sees the name and address of any of our donors unless or until such a donor voluntarily makes a gift to that other organization. This limited information sharing is common among allied nonprofit organizations and helps grow the broader pro-liberty movement.

CIR also participates in similar list co-ops in which we share donor names, mailing addresses, and recent giving history for analytical purposes to help us better manage our outreach. This still-limited information is incorporated into aggregate modeling or audience-generation tools used by the co-op for us and other participants (typically nonprofits, though not exclusively), though not in a way that reveals identifiable donor history to other organizations.

Donors may opt out of our limited information sharing through list exchanges and co-ops at any time, and we will respect and honor any donor’s decision to do so. We respectfully encourage donors not to opt out, however, because these exchanges and co-ops play a helpful role in extending CIR’s reach and impact. Consistent with this principle, members of CIR’s leadership personally support other worthy charitable organizations and, when making those gifts, generally choose not to opt out of similar list exchanges conducted by those organizations, allowing their own names and addresses to be shared as a way of helping those likeminded organizations grow their base of supporters.

Donors may request to be excluded from CIR’s limited data sharing with list exchanges or co-ops by contacting Zane Lucow by email at [email protected] or by mail at the following address:
